Using the dirt we’re digging out for the foundation to landscape around the yard. While we wait for the contractor that’s going to dig out the septic tanks and dig out as much as the foundation hole as he can in a day, we’ve been slowly digging the hole needed ourselves with the tractor. (HaveContinue reading “Some Landscaping”

Bye, Bye, Bye!
And now I really come to see, that life would be so much better, once you’re gone. (Lyrics from N’Sync’s Bye Bye Bye) Demolition is basically complete. There is a little bit of the foundation left that we’re hoping can be broken up by the guy coming to take out the septic tank this comingContinue reading “Bye, Bye, Bye!”
More Demolition
The house is coming down, slowly but surely. Well, not that slowly, but more controlled than when we drove the tractor into the eastern side. This week we got down the remaining roof and all the upstairs walls. Since the bin is gone we’re simply loading up our trailer (not the one we’re living in)Continue reading “More Demolition”
Take-Out Kitchen
We’ve built a temporary kitchen off of the shop/garage so we can make meals easier. We have been eating in the trailer but with moving the fridge and racks out to the new room, we’re likely going to put our dining room table into the space we’re staying in the shop. Since the room isContinue reading “Take-Out Kitchen”
Feeling Blue
With the entire back wall of the house gone (along with some of the side walls), we have a tarp for a wall, which makes the whole house a little blue. We now have about half of the remaining structure down, in the bin, and almost everything has been moved over to the shop orContinue reading “Feeling Blue”
Off With The Roof!
And some walls too! The week consisted of gutting the inside of the upper floor, taking off the paneling, getting out the insulation, taking down the walls, etc. Most of the debris ended up in the bin, but we sorted out the reusable wood to make another temporary structure for living comfort while the buildingContinue reading “Off With The Roof!”
The Plan (Revised… Again)
So we went through a few plans when we were planning on keeping the shell of the house intact, then we discovered all the issues and decided to tear down the house. Since we decided to build a new house from scratch, this is the third plan. This is the one getting submitted to theContinue reading “The Plan (Revised… Again)”
Let There Be Light
If we had known tearing down the covered porch would’ve made this much difference we would’ve done it a lot sooner. When we first bought the house it had the deck that came down ages ago, almost right away I believe since it was rotting, and it had the covered porch area by the slidingContinue reading “Let There Be Light”
The Hole Truth
This week we dug a hole. Well, actually, it’s closer to a trench than a hole. I’m not sure how many of you remember the last time we had to dig some trenches, but we did it when we first moved in to move the water line as well as to bring power to theContinue reading “The Hole Truth”
We’re Back, and Moving Out of the House!
Spring is here, finally, after an April where it kept snowing when it wasn’t raining. May has brought warmer, dryer weather (mostly) so we’re getting ready to get back into gear. The trailer I mentioned in a previous post was delivered and set up, and we’ve been working on moving in. We’re going to tryContinue reading “We’re Back, and Moving Out of the House!”
