Welcome 2025!!

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE! Hope everyone had a good and healthy holiday season with friends and family. My last update was back in August (so much for getting better at this) and a few things have been going on around here.

The house is starting to take shape as we floored a few rooms in the last five months. In the master bedroom we have a dark floor called Amber Ale, which we chose and purchased ages ago in order to make the room look a little smaller. (It is seriously a massive bedroom.)

We floored the front hall, half bath, and closet with the same floor that is in the laundry room, called Moon Glow. This means we are actually finished installing that particular floor! We added a mat we already had to protect it from wet, snowy boots, as well as we have some paper put down in high traffic areas to protect the floor until the house is finished.

And we floored the loft office area with flooring called River Walk. This is the floor that will be in the majority of the house as it will be in the office, the great room, the dining room, and the kitchen. All three of the floors discussed in this blog are a click together vinyl that is waterproff. We felt that was a decent idea with the lake and the snow.

Back to the master bedroom, we decided to put the tounge and groove pine that was on the ceiling in the main part of the house in the bedroom as well. And we got the light installed. Eventually the light will be switched out with a ceiling fan light. We are also putting the wood on the ceiling in the master bathroom, but that will be cedar.

And we got part of a second bathroom. We haven’t yet picked out a sink that we like for the other half bathroom off the main hall. We considered reusing a pedistal sink that we already have, but feel it would be lost in the room and we can’t use it to store any toiletries.

In the great room we finished boxing in the mantle for the fireplace and got the wood installed on the south wall. Still need to get the Wett certification before we can actually use the fireplace, but since we don’t yet have a couch to curl up on with a hot chocolate as it snows outside, it isn’t a big deal. We have found the house is already warm with the heat set low, so we imagine this will warm the house quite a bit.

In the kitchen we got the hood installed over the stove (only the stove isn’t there yet.) It has been turned on to test it and OMG is this thing quiet! It also lights up the area underneath quite nicely and has a dimmer in case you need less light. Like the floor, this was purchased ages ago and has been sitting in the box for months.

Lastly, we started working on the shower in the main bathroom upstairs. This is mostly so the plumbing downstairs could be finished and we can build the bulkhead in the kitchen & dining room, but still a fun time as this is our first shower. We still need to purchase the tile (though we have picked it out) but that should be easier as we have tiled before.

Well that is all for now. As always, thank you for following along on our construction journey and we wish you all the best for the new year.
