Just kidding. I know these updates are not regular at all. It’s been over three months since my last post, and I didn’t realize it had been that long until loading this up to write this one.

For the last three months, we’ve been jumping around a little bit, trying to work on things when weather allowed. We’ve also been working a little slow recently as we wish to enjoy the weather, the lake, and everything. We finished the deck out of the laundry room door on the west side of the house, and put up a temporary fence to create a place to let the dog out while we’re working. We also got a railing up on that deck. We decided to go simplier than originally planned with the railing, in part to get it done and in part for cost savings. We figured this was something that’s reletatively easy to change later.

We also got the railing on the back deck finished, all the way around except where the two sets of stairs are going to go, and a spot at the front that requrie us to build custom top and bottom wood pieces.

Inside we got more mudding of the drywall done, specifically in the front hall, the washroom off the front hall, and the front hall closet. We also got the tounge and groove pine installed on the north wall downstairs and the front hall ceiling. Now we just need to paint and floor the front hall, bathroom, and closet and we can install the second half bath.

Upstairs, we also got the tounge and groove pine installed on the ceiling, the north wall, and the beginning of the south wall, as well as the ceiling in the hallway going to the east side spare bedrooms. Since installing it we’ve been doing the tedious and painfull work of sanding and clear coating it.

Back to outside, we started installing the siding. We went with Cabot Blue for the majority of the house and Cabot Brown for the dormers. The center south facing wall took a while since we had to work around the wall of windows, but we did discover that cutting them with the grinder is quick and easy. Right now the entire south side of the house is finished except for the very top of the centre section.

We did hire some help to come and do the dormers, given the height and the fact that they finished the two south facing dormers and the centre north dormer in a single day. We also plan to have them do the top of the east and west walls when they come back to finish the remianing two dormers, after we take those walls three scaffold sections high. Out of everything we’ve done in the last three months, this feels like we’re getting the house close to finished. (But the joke’s on us, because there’s still a lot to do.)

So that’s where we’re currently at. I feel like I should promise that I will be more prompt with the next post, but my mother told me to not make promises I can’t keep, so I’ll be making no such promise. Thank you very much for following along on our journey, and for your paintence between posts.
