Oh, Look… A Wall

Another project to utilize the abundance of rock found on our property.

While we continue to wait for the concrete guy we’re looking for things we can do to get prepared for building the house next spring. Today we built a wall with some of the rock that we’ve dug up, using the larger, flatter ones we could find. This is close to the recently moved garage where the driveway forks, behind where we’ve started storing the trailer. It was a nice family project that only took an afternoon. This cleans up the area, giving us more space next to the garage opening and beside the garage where we plan to put a walkway, and it looks better than the sloping land that was there.

We put some filter fabric down to put the wall onto because it will keep the gravel layer in position and that will stop the wall from moving over time. We cleaned up the dirt and rocks that had been piled between the garage and the driveway during one of the previous projects, using some of that dirt to fill in behind the wall once it was finished. Unfortunately, this used only a fraction of the rock that we’ve dug up. We easily still have enough rock to do the projects I’ve previously mentioned of building a small wall down the property line and the entry wing walls at the end of the driveway. We have a lot of rock.

That’s it for now. Glad we’ve managed to do some stuff around the abundance of rain, but it does feel like we should’ve been able to do more. You can now leave comments and we encourage you to do so.
