My cleverness is lacking a little this week…

This week saw the purchase and set up of some of the equipment going into our shop along with our daughter making Christmas gifts with her dad. Unfortunately, further information regarding that will have to wait until next week, as some of the people who will be receiving these presents read this blog.

So instead I will be focusing this week’s update on the things we accomplished while our little one was in school. Around attending the school Christmas concert (which our child got to do a lot since the school is so small!), baking cookies for her last day class party, wrapping the gifts we didn’t want her to see, and other overall Christmas planning.

Outside it was warm enough this week to melt most of the snow we had, and allowed us to clean up more of the yard. We decided to take the rocks we dug up while burying the water and electrical lines and line the driveway, making it a little more aesthetically pleasing. We also managed to get all the tree branches piled along the west side of the property, providing a small wall between us and the neighbor.

Inside, our efforts were mainly focused on finishing the bathroom walls. We had previously purchased a new sander for the job (featured in the picture and available for purchase here) which we found fantastic to use! Full product review to follow, but I can say if you need to sand some walls, you should consider getting one. Last week we had completed the first coat of mud. This week saw us sanding that coat, and a second coat in order to get the walls ready for paint.

And we painted them! 2 coats of white paint on the walls and ceiling, with sanding after each coat. The bathroom is starting to come together and it feels nice that soon we will have one finished (although the floor is temporary) room. For the time being we will be putting back the laundry tub as I will need to continue washing the dishes here as I wait for a kitchen sink.

As you can see in the pictures, there is one small spot not painted. This was done intentionally as this is where the window will be going. Well, the window is actually a lot bigger than that unpainted space and will take up a fair amount of space on that northern wall, but that is a job for a different (perhaps warmer) day.

That is all for this week. Hope all of you have a very good holiday, whatever you choose to celebrate, and as always thank you so much for reading. Please feel free to share this blog with anyone you think would be interested in what we are doing here.
