Welcome back everyone. We’re steadily progressing through our home building journey, with a bunch getting done while I was busy with work. In this latest installment, we’re pleased to share the developments in various areas of our home. First we painted and floored our daughter’s room. As previously mentioned we let her pick the coloursContinue reading “Working on Upstairs”

Lots of Progress
Hello everyone. Sorry for such a long delay in posts. It’s not due to lack of progress, rather than a bunch of illness in our house through the month of June. Thankfully the one actually building the house was spared. First thing, we finished shingling the roof. I didn’t take any pictures of that asContinue reading “Lots of Progress”
Forming Footings
This week we got the footings for the foundation formed and discovered that we had to say goodbye to another tree. With the hole dug for the foundation it became obvious that the large cedar tree in the yard would be in the way of our deck (not to mention our view of the lake)Continue reading “Forming Footings”
A Hole Lot of Trouble
We dug up the rest of the hole we need to do the foundation and got a couple of surprises. We had dug down to bedrock under the original east side of the house and we thought we had a large enough space to conclude that the bedrock was about there for the entire footprintContinue reading “A Hole Lot of Trouble”
Some Landscaping
Using the dirt we’re digging out for the foundation to landscape around the yard. While we wait for the contractor that’s going to dig out the septic tanks and dig out as much as the foundation hole as he can in a day, we’ve been slowly digging the hole needed ourselves with the tractor. (HaveContinue reading “Some Landscaping”
The Hole Truth
This week we dug a hole. Well, actually, it’s closer to a trench than a hole. I’m not sure how many of you remember the last time we had to dig some trenches, but we did it when we first moved in to move the water line as well as to bring power to theContinue reading “The Hole Truth”
The Landscaping Plan
As we prepare the site for foundation as soon as spring is back we are attempting to plan so we don’t move the same dirt and rock a thousand times. I’ve mentioned in a previous blog our plan to put lights out on either side of the end of our driveway, so some of theContinue reading “The Landscaping Plan”
Oh, Look… A Wall
Originally posted on 2021-08-15 Another project to utilize the abundance of rock found on our property. While we continue to wait for the concrete guy we’re looking for things we can do to get prepared for building the house next spring. Today we built a wall with some of the rock that we’ve dug up,Continue reading “Oh, Look… A Wall”
The Chimney Is Now Gone!!
Originally posted in 2021-07-25 Well, it’s torn apart. All the rocks and concrete that made the chimney are still there. This week we tore down the last part that was standing from the east side of the house. We got the chimney down to the concrete base, which we think we need to rent aContinue reading “The Chimney Is Now Gone!!”
Results of Some Clean-up
Originally posted on 2021-06-13 As we’ve mentioned previously, we’ve been doing clean-up for the last few weeks and it’s made a huge difference in the property. Most of the debris from tearing down the house is now in a single pile or has been taken to the dump. The way between the door and theContinue reading “Results of Some Clean-up”
