Coming Together

The house is starting to come together, as we work on the interior. Started plumbing and electrical.

Before we got to that though, we framed in the attic space on the two sides of the second floor. (There is no attic above the great room and office.) Unlike the attic space in the house we tore down, this attic has a floor, which will make things a lot easier. In the old house we had to stay on the beams and try to not fall through the drywall ceiling.

In October, some of this area will be filled in with spray foam for insulation, as well as the rest of the roofline and the south wall facing the lake, but the rest of it will be available as storage space. I have no idea what we will put in this storage space as the house will already have far more places than we have stuff, but I’m sure we will eventually fill it.

Laundry room – Exterior door
Basement door – West side

Two of the three non-sliding exterior doors have been installed. The only one left is the main front door. The basement door was one we got from auction. The laundry room exterior door is a door that came off the garage and was repurposed. We will probably get a new door for that space at some point, but we felt it wasn’t necessary right now.

We did some framing in the basement too. We built a wall to seperate the crawl-space area from the full basement area, as well as we framed the electrial room. We also put extra support under where the fireplace in the great room is going. We have some plans for the basement now, though they are all obvioulsy down the road.

Sanitary drain lines, going out

As mentioned at the beginning of the post, we started on electrical and plumbing. We have the sanitary drain pipes to all four bathrooms, the kitchen, and the laundry room. We still need to glue the pipes together and do some venting, and then it’s onto the pex piping.

We’ve also ran the electrical to a bunch of rooms in the house so far, but we still have a fair amount to do.

Well, that’s all for now. Thank you very much for following along on our journey and for your patience as these blogs have been sporadic. We’re happy to share this process with you.
