Hello everyone. Sorry for such a long delay in posts. It’s not due to lack of progress, rather than a bunch of illness in our house through the month of June. Thankfully the one actually building the house was spared.

First thing, we finished shingling the roof. I didn’t take any pictures of that as it looks exactly the same as the other side. We did hire some help to get that done a little faster. Then we started putting insulation up on the outside of the house.

The next big thing that has to be done to close in the house is to install the windows and doors. Thinking aboput how to do that, we decided it would be easier and better to build the deck at the lake side first so we don’t have to lift and hold two 12 foot and a 16 foot sliding door about five feet off the ground. We got a good deal on the deck boards from an auction and managed to get more than enough to do the lake side and the road side deck.
We did have to submit another drawing to the county and get a new permit for the deck as a deck on the lake side wasn’t part of the original design. Originally the dirt was supposed to come all the way up and we were going to do a armour stone wall with backfill, but when we ended up with a full basement instead of a crawl space that changed.

As you can see from the pictures, the deck on both sides (outside the Master Bedroom and the Dining Room) are covered, where the deck in the middle (outside of the Great Room) is not. The decks will be connected so you can walk along it from one side of the house to the other with an angled part between the side decks and the middle deck. Lastly there will be a set of stairs off of each of the angles so we can easily get down to the ground no matter which of the sliding doors we decide to exit from.

The nice thing about having the roof on is that we (and by “we” I mean “him”) can do some work inside the house on the days that rain. During times it’s been too wet to work on the deck stairs to the basement were made and today we (actually “we” this time) installed them. Well, as you can see we’ve only got the stringers done right now, but between cutting out the basement windows and opening this up to the main floor the basement is a lot less dark. Also when the stairs are finished it will be a lot easier to get into the basement as the outside door still has a just a dirt slope to get down.

Anyway, that’s all for now. Thank you very much for following along on our journey and for your patience as these blogs have been sporadic. We’re happy to share this process with you.
