Making Progress on the Roof

Still working around the weather and the complicated roof we designed, but progress has been made and we hope to be shingling soon.

We’ve got insulation and sheeting up on a large chunk of the roof, creating the valleys where the different roofs meet. The beginning of each new section is slow as he figures out the first board, insulation, or sheet to be placed, but then the rest of the section is fairly quick considering that he’s been doing it alone for the most part. We have had a helper for a couple of days since the last blog, but with the weather being a tad unpredictable it’s difficult to plan for.

Quite often even when it’s warm and dry enough to work the wind is prohibitive for sheeting. Winds from the south coming in over the water are still the worse, but the roof is high enough that wind from all directions can make it difficult. Even with the fall arrest gear on we don’t want a gust of wind to catch a sheet the wrong way, so sunny and dry doesn’t automatically mean a day where a lot gets done.

To make things even slower, I’m not able to help as much as I would like. My bookkeeping business has been growing since the start of the new year and with the addition of tax returns, I’ve been very busy in the best possible way, but every day I spend working is a day I’m not helping with the house, even when the weather is cooperating. Don’t get me wrong, having work is great, although it puts us back at not knowing if we’ll sell or stay.

That’s all for now. Hopefully, it won’t be a full month before I write again, but I expect that April will continue to be busy. Thank you for following along on this journey with us.
