The progress on the house right now is very visual and noticeable, which has been great, but we’re still racing against Mother Nature, and given the snow (yes snow) we had this week, she might be winning.

Since the last blog, we’ve been putting up the first-floor walls. The first one we sheeted it first and used wall jacks we purchased from Amazon to lift it up. The wall jack worked great, lifting a wall that we otherwise wouldn’t be able to, but after that one, we decided to simply frame and sheet after. We still had to leave off the sheeting that was going between the two sections of the wall anyway. Even with just framing though, we used the jack to lift other walls.

At the time of this writing, most of the first-floor walls are up. We still have the little section at the south (Great room) that sticks out where the 16-foot sliding door is going to go, which is also open to above, and a couple of walls between the master ensuite, the walk-in closet, the hall closet, and the powder room off the front hall. It’s neat to walk through the “rooms” that will be there and see the layout of the first floor coming together.

But getting this work done wasn’t a pleasant affair. We had a bunch of days of rain in which we worked to get the walls up. During these days of rain, we had some hail and even some snow. So we have already failed at getting the roof done before there’s snow, but maybe we can before there’s snow that stayed. Thankfully today it warmed up and didn’t rain, but we had a lot of wind to contend with. The next few days are supposed to be sunny and warm before it turns cold again, so we’re going to try to take advantage of that, especially with it getting dark earlier in the evening.

That’s about all this week. Thank you for following along. As always, please follow us on Facebook where more pictures are available and we’ll see you when I get around to writing another one of these.
