Progress is happening fairly fast now.

First off, sorry this hasn’t been a weekly blog. Between some late nights and long days building the house and time spent trying to get my bookkeeping business going, I don’t always have the capacity to write this blog on a schedule. So until things calm down this is going to be a little more sporadic in coming. That said, we got a lot done since the last time I wrote one of these.
We built the posts in the basement. Cinder block posts for the section that only’s 5.5 feet and steel columns in the section that’s 8 feet. We did the steel there because they take up less room and since we ended up with a full basement we’ve decided to make that area the LO’s playroom, but they are more expensive than the cinder block which is why we stuck to the cinder block in the other part.

We framed the remaining part of the basement wall bringing the whole thing up to the tallest part of the ICF. Obviously, all the wood will be well above the dirt when we finish the landscaping around the house, and was done because our lot slopes towards the lake. Then we got the five beams built and in place.

Thanks to a lot of help since the last post, that’s not even all we got done. The joists are all installed and we currently have floorboards on 2/3 of the floor. The tongue and groove OSB is fairly easy to install, but those sheets are heavy. With the floor on though our basement feels very much like a basement. Also with the floor on, we’re able to see the exact view we’ll have from the Master Bedroom and the Great Room.

The weather has been cold in the mornings but generally warming up around noon and as we work. It’s starting to come together and it’s beginning to look like a house. Once the floors are done we’ll get started on the first-floor walls. It still remains to be seen if we can have walls, a roof, and insulation before the first snow falls, but I’m feeling a lot better about our chances now than I was a month ago.
Thank you for following along. As always, please follow us on Facebook where more pictures are available and we’ll see you when I get around to writing another one of these.
