The house is coming down, slowly but surely. Well, not that slowly, but more controlled than when we drove the tractor into the eastern side.

This week we got down the remaining roof and all the upstairs walls. Since the bin is gone we’re simply loading up our trailer (not the one we’re living in) and taking many trips to the dump ourselves. The trailer takes up much less room than the bin, and it’s easier to load. The downside is that it doesn’t hold nearly as much and we have to remove it ourselves.

Over the weekend we got started on the roof over the washroom and got it completely down and all the insulation in the attic cleaned out and in garbage bags. (This is so the rain doesn’t make it heavier and thus more expensive to dispose of. Gotta think of these things.) We also got all the leftover debris swept up and into the bin so the floor will be nicer to pull up. Some of the floor will go to finish the walls of the temporary kitchen I wrote about last week and the rest will go to the dump.

We also took out part of the bathroom wall so we could get out the washer and dryer, which I’m sure will be happy in their new homes. They’ve served us well over the last four years as I’m sure they worked well for the previous owner, but a new home means a new washer and dryer. Besides, we don’t really have anywhere to store them in the meantime. I have no idea how old they were, but they are still in good working order. So how are we getting our clothes clean without a washer and dryer? Mom’s laundromat, aka bringing the laundry down to the in-laws.

Well, that’s about it for this week. A lot of work done, but there is only so much one can say about missing walls and missing roof. Check out our Facebook page for more pictures and, as always, thanks for being here with us. See you next week!
