Feeling Blue

With the entire back wall of the house gone (along with some of the side walls), we have a tarp for a wall, which makes the whole house a little blue.

Wall missing before we put the tarp up.

We now have about half of the remaining structure down, in the bin, and almost everything has been moved over to the shop or trailer. We’re trying to figure out exactly how to divide what activities will be done in what area. So far it seems like we’ll be cooking and preparing meals in the shop but then eating in the trailer. This means a bit of carrying things back and forth, but the trailer has a table for eating at and we can’t fit one of those in the shop.

Full bin in the driveway

The bin is full, and now just waiting for pickup. We’re probably not going to bring it back for the remainder of the house to come down, instead, we will fill up our own trailer and make multiple trips to the dump. The remainder shouldn’t be as bad anyway as all the ceiling tiles are down, all the insulation is out, and all the drywall is off the walls already.

Tarp wall from the outside

Power is getting moved over to the shop this week, which meant we had to move the fridge over. We had a plan to simply take it out of the missing wall areas, but that was a little bit of a drop, so instead, we decided to bring it out the door. Only problem: The door wasn’t big enough to fit the fridge through. So we had to take out the door, and the frame, in order to get the fridge out. The nice thing though is that the shop floor was the perfect height to take the fridge off the dolly, so getting it into place in the shop was fairly easy.

Opening where the door used to be.

Anyway, it feels like there should be so much more to say as we were busy this past week, but since it was all taking apart a house the pictures pretty much says it all. Hopefully, once the power and water are moved the rest of the house will come down easily and we get started on the foundation for the new house.

Stay tuned for more demolition as we take down the rest of the second floor and get started on the first. Thank you so much for following along on our journey and please follow us on Facebook. See you next week!
