The Hole Truth

This week we dug a hole. Well, actually, it’s closer to a trench than a hole.

I’m not sure how many of you remember the last time we had to dig some trenches, but we did it when we first moved in to move the water line as well as to bring power to the shop. Back then we dug the trenches with shovels, constantly measuring to see if we were deep enough yet. It took forever.

And if you’re a follower of this blog you can already see where this is going.

Of course, I’m going to talk about the tractor. This is why we purchased the tractor to begin with. Between the power, the water, and the septic, we knew we would need to do a lot of digging. And the tractor has yet again been worth every cent. Digging a trench to move the main power line so it will come into the shop, permanently, we’ve dug a deeper trench than we need in much less time than it took us before.

The trench would’ve been completely done within the week, but the tractor had a bit of tire trouble. We’ve had to patch it and still constantly refill it with air. We tried to order a replacement, but the company isn’t even taking orders for them right now. So until we can get a new tire we’ll continue to work with what we have, and still be happy that we have it.

Since we’re moving the power anyway, we’re also upping the amperage coming into the house. The old house had a 100 amp service panel and the new house will have a 200 amp service panel. As stated above the main panel will be in the shop even once the new house is built with a subpanel in the house.

That’s it for this week. Thank you so much for following along on our journey and please follow us on Facebook. See you next week!
