As we prepare the site for foundation as soon as spring is back we are attempting to plan so we don’t move the same dirt and rock a thousand times.

I’ve mentioned in a previous blog our plan to put lights out on either side of the end of our driveway, so some of the larger rocks are being piled there in preparation for that project. At this time we’re piling them all on one side to ensure they’re completely out of the way of the snow plow. One side has considerably more grass between the trees and the road.

Another plan we have is to take a clear (as in no trees) section near the road and make space to park two vehicles, and install another light to guide down the driveway. This could also serve as a place to turn around that isn’t all the way down the 200 feet driveway.

This property gets very, very dark at night, especially if clouds are blocking the stars. Right now we park our vehicles at about this point on the driveway due to all the construction happening closer to the house and right now we’re dependant on cellphone flashlights to get around when it’s dark. We want to eliminate that issue while ensuring we’re complying with any dark sky laws that might exist. (That is something we still need to research.)

Even with all the sorting we plan to do, there remains some dirt so full of nails and other small debris that it’s not worth our time or effort to sort it into useable components. This pile will remain until spring, at which point we will pay someone to haul it away. We want to keep this pile as small as possible though to keep that invoice small.
That’s all I have for right now. Things are slow until spring, but once we get going in earnest it’s going to go quickly. Thanks for following along and I hope to see you again soon.
