Windy Day Took Out Third Dock

Well, we did say “So far” in the last blog…

So, Saturday was a really windy and stormy day. It was nice to be outside in the wind, especially after the power went out, but it did have some not so nice effects. Mainly, our third dock is now gone and we are back at square one in regards to how to put a dock in. It’s now halfway through the summer, and we’re not sure if this is something we’ll have before the end of the season.

The wind that we get at out property is really great in that we can hear the waves pretty much all the time, and that sound is the biggest reason I wanted to live by water. That sound is inspiring and calming. However, with strong winds and high water levels, it makes some of the other reasons to live on the water a bit of a challenge. Without a dock, there is little point in getting a canoe or kayak and we need to continue walking over rocks in the water to go swimming.

Our best idea for getting a dock in at this point is to use the tractor to dump a lot (and I mean a lot) of rock into the lake along the path of the dock and then build a wooden dock on top of that. Now, we just need to find the time to do that around each of us working, doing various things so we can afford to stay in this house with the lake and the waves.

The town is pretty much in full swing with the vacation season in full force. It’s almost impossible to find parking in the town over the weekend and still can be difficult during the week. Actually being part of the community this year, I can see the difference in the locals who live here between the winter months and the summer months. This town lives on a very defined cycle.

That is all for now. Thank you to everyone for reading and following along.
