The Things Snow Hides

The snow has started to melt, and showing us everything we didn’t take care of before it started falling.

So spring has finally come and with it some warmer weather and the return of some tourists to the town. The town itself is still mainly closed, but everything is counting down the days until they open, many of the regular winter activities are going on hiatus until October, and most of the seasonal residents are back.

The biggest thing we’ve noticed around the property is all the things we didn’t get cleaned up before the snow started falling and has been hidden by snowbanks since. Because we hadn’t seen it in so long, we had forgotten a bunch of it was there, so part of this week has been spent cleaning up the outside.

It has been great to be outside again for longer periods of time. It’s been nice to not need to put on snow pants, heavy jackets, gloves, hats, and boots. Also, with the ice either melted or broken over the lake, we have the waves back. It’s been great to hear those again.

With the return of the warmer weather, we have managed to install two windows this week. The first one we installed was in our (new) kitchen over the sink. Since we’ve gone most of the winter without any windows on the northern wall and all the others covered in plastic, getting natural light in the house again has been fantastic!

The window was pretty easy to install, but we’ll see if I’m still saying that when we get to some of the bigger ones. Right now we have used Tuck Tape to seal it, however, we will be installing a better seal once we put some new Tyvek on. Although it held up great, it did get ripped in some spots so we plan to replace it.

The only minor snag we hit, is apparently we made the hole for the window in the bathroom as per one plan, and ordered the window as per a different plan, so the hole was too big for the window. This meant we had to re-frame the window in the bathroom before we could install it. Pretty easy fix though. It didn’t take long.

Thank you again for following us on this journey and sorry we’ve been slow moving for the last several weeks. With the warmer now here, we should be back to working at full force. Follow us on Facebook for more pictures of the process and thank you to everyone who’s using our Amazon links for purchases they would make anyway. And, as always, thanks for reading!
