Teaching Tractor Safety

The little one was on the tractor today, learning how to properly use it.

This isn’t the first time she’s been on the tractor and it isn’t even the first time that she’s handled the backhoe, but we like to get her on there and to learn how to properly use it so she’s not afraid of it. We plan for her to know how to use the tractor and all the power tools as we plan to have her involved in all parts of building the new house, even as we ourselves are trying to figure it out. Not everything can be learned in school and we want to ensure she knows at least a little about a wide variety of things.

Yes, sometimes we are trying to figure this out as we go. This is the first time we’ve attempted to tear down the house and build a new one from scratch, and we don’t always know exactly what we need to do before we do it. Luckily for us, we happen to like doing research because we’ve had to do a lot of it with this project. Remember, this snowballed from simply being a fix-up renovation to a full teardown and rebuild. The house was in a lot worse condition than we originally thought, given how much rot we found throughout all of it.

We’re still hoping to break ground for the new house in the spring with the plan we’ve managed to settle on. Funny story though, with the plan that we’ve decided to go with, we didn’t HAVE to move the garage. Yeah… after all that it turns out it wasn’t even necessary. But it’s been moved so we are trying to focus on the positive that it isn’t bad to have a larger shop and it wouldn’t be in a great spot even with the new plan. It’s likely that we still would’ve wanted to move the garage, so we’re focusing on that.

This week all we’ve done is moving more things, mostly large rocks, around the property to get it out of the way of where the new house needs to go and hopefully to somewhere that we won’t have to move it again until we’ve decided where they’re going to go permanently. (I’m not holding my breath. A bunch of the work done around here is simply moving things around.) We’ve also put more things into the trailer and will probably need to do another dump run soon. You can now leave comments and we encourage you to do so. You can also sign-up for a mailing list so you never miss a new post. Please also follow us on Facebook for additional photos of the work being done. Also, if you happen to be purchasing anything on Amazon please use one of the many links found on the webpage. That really helps us out. Thank you for following us on our journey and I look forward to seeing you next week.
