July has been so abnormally rainy this year, we’re starting to wonder if it’s a house we should be building. It feels like it’s rained most of the month, whether or not we could work on the house. Hopefully August will be better.

Anything we hoped to get done this weekend, which frankly was simply moving more dirt around, has been canceled due to rain, again. Yesterday it rained so much that it filled the hole we created when we finished removing the chimney and the room it was attached to. It was raining hard enough both yesterday and most of today that working in it wasn’t even a real option, especially since we wanted to move dirt. So yet again an entire weekend was wasted and the only saving grace to that is we are still waiting on the concrete guy to do the garage floor so we can get our shop back.
Unfortunately, we have a bad habit of leaving all our windows open, since the breeze off the lake means that air conditioning is unnecessary, and we’ve had to clean up water in the house more than once this past month. Waking up to rain hitting your face when you’re in your home isn’t as pleasant as you may think.

I imagine it also hasn’t been great for those that came up here this long weekend, but the rain didn’t seem to stop some of them from still enjoying the lake. We didn’t see any swimmers over the weekend, but there were a few out in canoes and kayaks. One of the joys of living here is that the lake is always there, so you can wait for a good day for these activities. We haven’t been in the water during the rain, although I imagine as long as there’s no lightning it would be fine, but we have been in immediately following heavy rain. With less contrast in temperature between the air and the water, it’s actually quite nice.
That’s it for now. Glad we’ve managed to do some stuff around the abundance of rain, but it does feel like we should’ve been able to do more. You can now leave comments and we encourage you to do so.
