Results of Some Clean-up

As we’ve mentioned previously, we’ve been doing clean-up for the last few weeks and it’s made a huge difference in the property.

Most of the debris from tearing down the house is now in a single pile or has been taken to the dump. The way between the door and the lake is now a much nicer walk that doesn’t feel like you should be wearing work boots just to head down to the water. We have no illusions, the property is still a construction site and parts of the property still has that obvious, but it is now a more organized construction site. And as you can see from the picture that chimney still needs to come down.

We also built a screening rack to help us separate the dirt from the large rocks since there are a lot of large rocks. The plan is to use the topsoil for grading out front and getting some of the stones removed there. Once the house is built we will need to do a fair amount of landscaping so the property fits the house that will be on it. The view out onto the lake is amazing from our lot and we want to make sure the view of the property enhances that image.

We also have plans for the abundance of rock we have around the property. Have I mentioned before that we have a lot of rock? Anyway, we are already in the process of building a low rock wall down the entire property line between us and our eastern neighbours, which will take up a fair amount of the rock. We also plan to build a stone wall on either side of the driveway, with lights that can be turned on to find the property easier in the dark. If those two projects don’t eat up most of the rocks we’ve dug out of the ground, I’m sure we will come up with other uses for it. We entertained the idea of getting a rock crusher since we might have to pay someone to haul larger rocks away and we pay to have small rocks (gravel) delivered, but we discovered while we could save hundreds of dollars it would cost us thousands of dollars and a copious amount of time to crush all the rock ourselves. Needless to say, that idea died quickly.

That is all for now. You can now leave comments and we encourage you to do so. You can also sign-up for a mailing list so you never miss a new post. Please also follow us on Facebook for additional photos of the work being done. Also, if you happen to be purchasing anything on Amazon please use one of the many links found on the webpage. That really helps us out. Thank you for following us on our journey and I look forward to seeing you next week.
