A little bit more roofing this week.

With the couple of days it didn’t rain this week, we decided to rip the shingles off of the roof of the shop and replace it with shingles we had purchased last fall. Part of why we chose this project to do right away is we thought we had all the required things in order to do it.

Unfortunately we were not quite right. Part of the roof decking had been rotted clean though, making it so we had to purchase two sheets of 5/8 OSB in order to repair it. This was in the south-west corner of the shop roof, where we had a tree that was dropping snow on it all winter.

Like most projects around the house, this one involved the entire family. Yes, we put our five-year old daughter up on the single story roof, but she was very good at staying away from the edges. As previously mentioned, she is amazing at finding missed nails that still need removing.

One nice thing about doing this roof over the ones we completed on the house in the fall is we had picked up a roofing nailer, and that makes installing shingles so much easier. What we did in four hours took roughly two days back in the fall. Really wish we had picked that up sooner.

Once the shop roof is done that leaves us with only the roof above the eastern room that needs to be done in the near future, but as stated last week, we have a lot of things we hope to complete on that room this summer. Changing the shingles makes a vast improvement to the exterior of the building and also prevents further leaking which was an issue.
