Or at least starting to.

This week we got the trusses back up on the garage in the new location. It was surprisingly easy with only two people, but I didn’t do most of it to be fair. Like always he did most of the lifting, and placing, and etc. I did some helping of lifting and I did a fair amount of steadying. The only thing really abnormal about it was the amount of time we spent up on the scaffolding inside the garage. If you are going to do projects like this you really need some scaffolding.

The only other really interesting part was preparing for having the two roofs meet. This required us to cut part of the shop roof with the reciprocating saw to make room for the trusses of the garage. (I’m not sure at what point I’ll start referring to these two buildings as only one. Probably once this part of the project is complete.) We also had to cut the end off of the trusses that are located under the roofline of the shop.

Once the trusses were up we had to put a 2×6 at the peak of the roof, into the space left for it in the trusses. Even on the scaffolding, it turned out I am a hair too short to easily put the 2×6 into place, but that was easily solved by giving me a cinder block on the scaffolding to stand on. The more I work on projects like this the more I wish I had a couple more inches of height. I find being tall comes in handy far more often than being short.

It didn’t take long for us to make a hole in the wall where it will combine with the shop. After about half a day of constantly walking around to get things that were located in the shop, we decided to take the circular saw and make an entrance. Obviously, eventually, this will be the size of the garage door that is there and will be framed properly and the garage door that is currently between the two buildings will be moved to replace the garage door that got damaged while moving the walls, but this is convenient for now.

That’s all for this week. You can now leave comments and we encourage you to do so. You can also sign-up for a mailing list so you never miss a new post. Please also follow us on Facebook for additional photos of the work being done. Thank you for following us on our journey and I look forward to seeing you next week. Hopefully, we will finish the roof and get a bit more of the mess on the lot cleaned up.
