Preparing to Move The Garage

Spring is upon us. The weather is fairly warm and the sun is now out longer. With the ice rink plan a no-go, we’re preparing to take apart the garage and move it to its new home in pieces.

A couple of posts ago I talked about us removing the roof and at the time of writing that post we had taken the shingles off and got the particle board removed. Now we have the trusses down as well, leaving the garage completely open to the elements.

We also got the siding off of a chunk of the garage. The next step is to remove the North wall from the garage and put it up against the shop. Then we need to determine the best way for the garage door to face, though neither is ideal for putting a car into it. This is fine for us as we never had an intention of using it as a garage, but it’s not ideal for resale.

On the front of the garage, we have only removed most of the siding so far as we were hoping to be able to move the south wall without removing the siding, however, closer examination tells us that isn’t the case as we need to be able to reach the wooden corners underneath. We are hoping to get the garage moved completely next weekend, but that one isn’t a four-day weekend for us and right now the weather is calling for rain. We’ll see how it goes as we can’t always trust the weatherman.

We also got the necessary siding off of the shop this weekend, so I guess this was mainly the weekend of removing siding. Most of it came off in one reusable piece, so that was good. A nail puller was a lifesaver here, getting the nails out without damaging the siding. It’s an inexpensive tool that we’re looking at getting a second one as passing the one we have back and forth was very annoying.
