Preparing for Concrete

More preparing for stuff. Sometimes it seems like all we do is prepare for things to happen.

Grading the driveway

We are hoping the concrete guy will be here soon, and that means making sure everything is ready for him to go so there aren’t any hiccups. The main thing this included this week is using the stone and tamper to grade the driveway, making the slope into the garage nicer. We also used the tractor to clear out some of the rocks and widen the space. At this point, it’s still unlikely that we will keep a vehicle in the garage, and definitely not anytime soon. We need it for storage so we can get the shop back into working order.

Next to the garage, we plan to get more stone and make an area to keep the paddle boat and other things. It could also be used as a path beside the garage, but we are probably going to put in another mandoor to make it easy to walk through the garage without having to circle around the shop. We then plan to fill the area between the path to store things and the main driveway with mulch and a fern garden.

Lastly, we cleaned up the siding off the ground and moved it out of the garage. The scaffolding full of the siding was much easier to move inside the garage where the rock was compacted down tightly, but we managed to get to this spot. Before putting the siding back on we are planning to (because plans never change, right?) put up one-inch rigid foam insulation, strapping the wall first to provide an air gap. Eventually, this siding will come off again and we will make the garage match the future house.

That is all for now. You can now leave comments and we encourage you to do so. You can also sign-up for a mailing list so you never miss a new post. Please also follow us on Facebook for additional photos of the work being done. Also, if you happen to be purchasing anything on Amazon please use one of the many links found on the webpage. That really helps us out. Thank you for following us on our journey and I look forward to seeing you next week. (Hopefully. My track record for weekly hasn’t been the greatest lately.)
