Finally tearing out the kitchen in the east room

With the new kitchen in the west room functional it was time to rip out the old kitchen in the east room. We gave away the electric stove as we are now using a propane one in the other kitchen, and we tossed out the dishwasher that hasn’t been used in over a year. (The house had not been lived in for a year prior to purchase.)

Then we had the fun of demolition as we removed all the cupboards and the kitchen counter. We took out the old kitchen sink, that’s been unusable for months anyway, and the pump that was underneath it. Pulled out a lot of rot that we knew was there, so we also gave everything a healthy coating of bleach water.

We then broke apart and removed the tile, which was easy enough to do. All of that managed to fit into our trailer for disposal, but as we were about to take all these items to the dump we discovered a small problem with the lights on our trailer, so that is now waiting until next week when we can get that fixed.

Next we attempted to pull up the underlay, however those who installed it decided to put a million screws throughout the thing, and some of the screw heads are filled with mortar making them very difficult to get out. We didn’t manage to remove the underlay because of that and the inability to empty the trailer, so that is now on the agenda for this coming week.

That is all for this week. Work is a little slow right now as there is so much we are waiting on nicer weather to do. Please follow us on Facebook for additional pictures of the property and, as always, thanks for joining this week.
