On To Plan B

After all that time and effort to make the ice rink, Mother Nature decided that was a no-go.

Things were going well after waiting so long for it to be cold enough for a long enough period. The rink was built and we spent the last weekend in February moving the rocks and smoothing out the ground to use the tractor to help us move the garage. All we needed was for it to stay cold for a few days, but sadly that was not going to happen.

We checked the weather and decided that we needed to try to move the garage that day as it couldn’t wait for us to work another week. Separating the garage from the foundation turned out to be a pain because they used nails instead of screws. After a few hours of fighting with it, we decided to simply move on to Plan B.

Only problem we now had was the small issue that we didn’t have a Plan B. Luckily for us, the options are fairly limited so it didn’t take us too long to decide that the only real option is to take apart the garage and rebuilt it in as large of pieces as possible.

On the first nice day of the season, we removed the shingles from the roof. It needed to be redone anyway, but it will also be a lot easier to move the roof boards instead of the roof as one piece. We also took advantage of the warmer weather to take the trailer full of the house to the dump. We also set up the scaffold to start taking apart the roof, but the wind yesterday made going back up onto the roof unadvisable. But we have the advantage now of being able to wait for nicer days, at least until we need to start digging for the foundation of the new house.

That is all for now. You can now leave comments and we encourage you to do so. You can also sign-up for a mailing list so you never miss a new post.
