With this week coming up a bunch of changes are about to happen that returns a bit or normal to our lives.

As some of you may know, I’ve been home from work since the April break (that was supposed to be in March) because the province decided to close all the schools (again) and move them to online learning. My office was also closed in a manner of speaking, but since I had to be off with the child anyway, I don’t actually know the details of that. What I do know is they went back to regular hours on Thursday, and thus we are now eligible for emergency daycare services since both of us are considered essential workers and we both work out of the home. So I will be returning to work tomorrow and will need to get used to getting up early and driving again. It hasn’t been easy, but I have enjoyed being at home.

I had hoped the provincial government was going to send the kids back to school for the last month, especially since her school is so small. (I believe I have mentioned this in previous blogs, but her school has only 13 students from JK to Grade 3) Alas, I wasn’t that lucky, so she will be heading to daycare and they will assist her with online learning. What does this look like? Well, it means that we have to send her with a device and headphones so she can join the rest of her class online, as well as all the materials she will need for school. We’re going to prepare as much as we can tonight, but we’ve just spent seven weeks of printing and finding things as we needed them. The upside to this is one of her classmates has already been doing this from the daycare she’ll be attending, so she will get to physically see one of the four again!

This does mean that Dad is limited to what he can work by daycare hours, and Mom might have to cut out early if Dad is unable to pick her up.

Thankfully, we’ve known for a while that the daycare will be back to normal-ish for the summer months and she already has a spot for all the weeks she won’t be with Grandma and Grandpa. So it looks like the summer is going to be a lot closer to normal than it was last year and I won’t have to spend the whole thing stressed out over who can take care of her. That should make this summer a lot nicer and hopefully, it means we can spend more time enjoying the nice weather and the lake we live next to.

And with any luck, life can start to return to normal for everyone. Getting supplies would be a lot easier if the stores were simply open and it would be nice to get together with people to share the nice weather again.
