We finally started the demolition of the house, tearing it down using the tractor. Since we are using the tractor is pretty much a one-person job. The biggest downside to starting this today is that it’s supposed to rain tonight and we can’t leave the wall to the house that’s staying exposed to the elements. We are still working on this even though it’s currently past dark. (Hooray for floodlights!)

Earlier in the week, the building inspector approved our foundation, so we filled in the hole. We had to do the one part against the shop with shovels, but the rest of it was done quickly with the tractor. (Have I mentioned how much I love the tractor?) The plan from here is to wait until winter, freeze the driveway between where the garage currently is and the foundation we built. Then we’re going to use the ice to help us push the garage into place.

We had about a skid and a half of blocks left over, which we got to return for a credit, so this part of the renovation has come in under budget. I hope for more of this, but I’m not delusional enough to think that everything is going to come in under budget. We took Thursday off work since it was a gorgeous day and this didn’t even take the whole day.

Saturday was spent removing the remaining windows and moving the rest of the items in the house. Again we ended up with a pile of stuff in the part of the house that’s staying which we needed to find homes for. Mostly we had to move the other new windows from the bedroom to the garage. That garage is holding a lot of stuff, so I will be without a garage this winter.
