Continuation of the Garage Roof

Still working on putting the roof back on the garage, but we made some good progress this weekend. Would’ve made a bit more, but Saturday was cut short due to snow and hail. Apparently, Mother Nature hasn’t got the memo that it’s spring.

During the week we got a delivery of 3/4 crushed stone which we are going to put in the floor of the garage to level it out before having our concrete guy come and make a concrete floor. We talked to him today and he can get to us in about a month, especially considering that it will be a good rainy day project since we will have the roof done by then. As evidenced by the picture, the little one and the dog have a ton of fun playing on it and will probably be sad when it inevitably disappears.

This week we also had a lot of nails we had to remove from boards in order to reuse them. After a few boards, our neighbours brought over an Air Punch Nailer, which was AMAZING!! So much easier than hammering and yanking out nails. Most of the nails simply shot right out, though it left a few to be yanked. Still, it saved me from all the hammering and we will be getting our own. (Available on Amazon. See the link.) It is good that we have a magnetic broom though, as often it was difficult to tell where the nail went.

But the big thing we got done this week was a good chunk of the roof. We finished framing it, including adding a two-foot overhang that wasn’t on the original garage and starting to put up the plywood. We did the first couple of boards using the ladder, but then smoothed out the ground with the tractor and put up the scaffolding. This wasn’t really a two-person job so I spent most of the day cleaning up the yard which still desperately needs to be done, but I was around to lend a hand, grab tools, and just to make sure he didn’t get himself hurt.

We should be finished putting up the plywood this week, as we could probably have had it done if yesterday wasn’t such a short day. You can now leave comments and we encourage you to do so. Thank you for following us on our journey and I look forward to seeing you next week.
