But the Third One Stayed (So Far)

The fun we had in trying to build a dock out into our water.

We haven’t done a lot around the house in the last month and a bit because we have both been working to bring in money so we can stay in this beautiful location, however one thing we have managed to do was to build a dock, three times. The water level is really high this year, compared to when we moved in last August, so building the dock has had challenges.

We discovered we didn’t need a permit for any cribbing under 15 square meters, so we could build the deck that way without issue. We built the cribbing and filled with rocks, however, the waves from first storm we had after building it lifted it up and carried it away causing us to have to start over.

The second attempt was far more successful. Good news, the cribbing itself stayed. Bad news, we didn’t really have anything good to secure the top of the deck with, so the waves ripped it off and carried it away. We learned from that and got some better fasteners for the top of the deck and tried a third time. Third times the charm, right?

So far that does seem to be the case (knock on wood), however we are half expecting a storm to take out this third one as well. The water has risen so much since June that the rock we used to start the deck, that was well out of the water in June, is now completely covered and the water comes in about 10 feet past the beginning of the dock. So we have to put our feet into the water to get to our dock.

So sorry it has been so long since my last post. I will be making more of an attempt to post regularly again. Hopefully we will be able to get to doing more stuff around our place soon. Thank you so much for reading and for your patience.
