Building a Fort

The little one and dad decided she needed a fort, and the more they build the bigger the plan gets.

I didn’t realize that I missed last week until I started to write this post. I wish I could remember what I was doing that prevented me from writing a blog post week, but since I can’t I assume whatever excuse I have is lame. So please accept my deepest apologies for missing a week right after promising these were going back to once a week, and enjoy this entry that I promised you at the end of the last post. This is the project the little one and dad have been working on.

The little one decided she wanted a fort, so of course, we’re now building her one. It is a project she is working on with dad, so work only happens after school and on the weekends. They started the project before she went back to school, but it keeps growing in scope. It hasn’t happened yet, but there is now talk of running power out to the fort, in part so we can put a small electric heater out there, making the fort useable all winter, because that is something every child needs, right?

They still have some work to do on it, but it currently has walls, (which are insulated along with the roof) a shingled roof, and a railing. They will be putting on siding and installing a ladder as weather allows in the next few weeks. The little one is proud of the work she’s put into this fort and can’t wait to play in it with friends she invites over. We figure when she’s a little older she’ll be able to sleep out there, weather permitting, giving her a makeshift camping experience away from mom and dad.

So, what have we been doing while not working on the side project of the fort? Well, he’s still doing some work for other people, bringing in the income we need to complete this project while I have been getting more comfortable with my new job. When not doing that though, he decided it was time to take down one of the many sheds that are around the property. Mainly, the one located beside the one garage. The removal of which will allow us to make the change we want to do in the driveway.

The tractor we had recently purchased for many reasons made quick work of taking that shed down and cleaning up the debris. What would once have taken two of us several days, maybe even a couple of weeks, he did by himself in only a couple of days. We wish we had captured it on video, but unfortunately, there wasn’t anyone to film it as he tore it down and we may have mentioned our internet connection isn’t exactly stellar. A video would have taken us a long time to upload.

We also picked up a canvas garage which we put up next to the shop. Currently, this is where we are keeping the building materials we are not actively using in order to protect them a little over the winter months without having to have them piled in the shop or the house. The second garage, the one that was meant to be used as a garage, is also still full of stuff, so it looks like I will have another winter of clearing ice and snow off my car every morning.

Thank you all for reading and sorry again for missing last week. I really wish I could remember what had me too busy to write a blog. If you need anything Amazon anyway, please use the links found on the webpage. If you purchase anything using those links it helps us out. See you next week. I assume. I certainly don’t plan on missing another week, but I didn’t plan on missing last week, so maybe I just shouldn’t make promises.
