Also Rotten on the Eastern Front

Surprise, surprise, surprise! We found more rot.

Work has been and will be a little slow as we are now both working outside of the house to bring in some money. I am working in retail in the tourist town we live near and he is now doing odd jobs for those in the area. Things like what we need to do around here, just on a smaller scale.

What we did get done at our place this week was the removal of the northeast deck (located out from where the kitchen used to be) in order to replace it. The deck itself came out easy enough, but we found a couple of surprises (but unfortunately we’re not really surprised) where the deck meets the walls.

We found some more rot, caused from the deck not being attached properly to the wall. At this point, we’re expecting to find issues whenever we take something apart, and was not really surprised to find this rot. So we have more wood that needs to be replaced in the walls.

The other thing we found that was causing a rot issue is a drain pipe from the kitchen simply emptying into the wall. We think this was from the old kitchen sink, which we are now thankful we didn’t use very long as the plan to move the kitchen was hatched almost right away. So more rot to deal with. We wish were surprised by this discovery, but with everything we had already found with this property, we are not. Stay tuned as we deal with this issue, as well as gut and rebuild the eastern room into solely a living room. Thank you for following us on this journey.
