A Tale of Two Kitchens

Finally saying “good-bye” to the old and “hello” to the new!

If you have been following this blog, you will know that we started a plan to move our kitchen from the Eastern-most room to the Western-most room for awhile now. In fact, that plan is what has prompted most of the fun we have had thus far. This week, we have officially started using the new western room kitchen, freeing us to tear out the old eastern room one, possibly in this coming week.

Unfortunately, many parts of this kitchen are temporary, simply to make the space usable until we are able to complete the plan. We received our propane stove, moved the fridge, installed a kitchen sink (No more doing dishes in a laundry tub in the bathroom!), moved over the wire racking we were using in the old kitchen, and made temporary upper and lower cabinets.

This change has already been fantastic! Although we don’t have more counter space in the new kitchen (yet!) it is more functional and it’s been easier to make meals. Doing dishes has also become a lot easier as I can wash them and put them away in the same room! The space is also warmer due to all the insulation we have installed, making meal time all around more pleasant.

In other news, the deer have been very active around our place. It’s been a while since we’ve driven down our street without seeing several, and we had some come visit us at our house! The coyotes have been active as well. Haven’t seen them yet, but we sure can hear them! Usually at night when we are trying to sleep. For anyone who doesn’t know, trying to sleep with a pack of coyotes howling outside isn’t the easiest thing to do.

In an awesome turn of events, our daughter has finally had a full week of school this week, the first one since the Christmas break. Hopefully most of the weeks are full weeks from here on out, but we still have a week of February and all of Mach, so we will see. In coming years, we’ve decided that we can take holidays in January and or February guilt free, as she won’t miss much more school than she did anyway.

That is all for this week. If you haven’t done so already, please follow us on Facebook to get some additional photos and be alerted whenever a new blog post is published and a big thank-you to everyone that has used our site links for purchases through Amazon. Hope you are enjoying coming on this journey with us and, as always, thanks for reading.
