5 things we would do differently if we could go back.

5) Have an Earlier Closing Date
It would have been nice to have a closing date earlier than mid-August for several reasons. First, it would have been nice to have more time to figure out and complete everything that needed to be done before winter. Second, who wouldn’t want more time to enjoy all the benefits of having a lake in the front yard? Lastly, it would have been very beneficial to have completed the tasks that had to be done immediately before the town closed for the season.

4) Not Remove the Electric Heat
If we could make this decision again, we would have left the electric heat and installed solar panels instead of switching it to a boiler system. This would have saved us money in the long term, especially considering we’re going through more propane than we thought we would.

3) Focus on Building the Shop
Before Starting on the house with the exception of the things that had to be done immediately, it would have been beneficial if we had completely built the shop before we started tearing apart the house. We’ve changed the plan so more things are being built by us in this shop, and we could have focused on that before tearing the house apart.

2) Spend the Money on a Roofing Nailer
A roofing nailer would have increased the efficiency of which we could have completed the roof, and possibly would have allowed for us to completely finish the roof instead of leaving the one section and the garages for spring. Not to mention it would have saved our hands from a bit of pain!

1) Have the Tree Removal Company Mulch the Branches
We wanted the trunks for building in the shop and we wanted good size branches for fire and looking up at the tree we thought, “There isn’t that many branches”. We were wrong, and it would have worth at least getting a quote to have the company that cut down the trees to mulch the branches too.

So that is the 5 things we would do differently if we could go back and do them again. Thank you so much for reading.
