7) Our View Might Be Even Better

Winter up here is very pretty and seeing winter over a lake every day is fantastic. The water has just started to freeze over, and this has allowed us to watch the waves move the thin ice surface. The green of the trees is very lovely, but the white of the snow in them is, in our opinion, even better.

6) The Distinct Lack of Crowds

The town we live near needs the tourists and everyone seems to love having them here and sharing with them; however, it is also nice to enjoy the off season when they are all gone. It is nice to walk around the town without any worry of bumping into people, and taking in the beauty that is missed by the tourists.

5) The Shop

Specifically, the ability to have the shop and still have a garage in which to park the car. Getting enough land to accomplish this is getting increasingly more difficult & expensive near cities. It is great that he can have his wood shop to create most of the furniture as we fix up the house and we can keep our car in the garage over the cold winter months.

4) The Relaxed Lifestyle

Everyone seems so relaxed up here. “Whenever you get around to it,” is a phrase we hear a lot, and no one seems to be too concerned if you show up a little late. No one seems in a hurry, and no one seems to get worked up over little things. In the city, I was always the relaxed one, but up here I feel like I’m the stressed out one.

3) The Community

With all the tourists gone, it’s now clear to people that we are part of the community by the fact that we’re still here. The community seems to really care about each other and we have felt welcomed everywhere we’ve gone since the tourists left. There is also a bunch of events for the locals to get through the off season.

2) The School

The school is so small that is a fixture for the community, even those who don’t have children. The classes are very small and our daughter gets unbelievable one-on-one attention. It’s like our child attends a private school, but it’s a public school that the community is quick to donate to as well.

1) The Neighbours

We are now meeting our year-round neighbours, and although we can go days without seeing anyone, when we do see our neighbours they are the nicest people. All of them have told us to drop in anytime, and we were invited to a neighbourhood party (which unfortunately we missed due to being ill). Not an experience we ever had within a city neighbourhood.
